Cuvée Bugarach, “if there is only one left, I shall be that one” drink on December 21.

Imagine, we are in December 2012, within a few days, precisely on the 21st, it will be too late… Asteroids will hit the Earth, excessive Sun activity will destroy all communication systems, and our planet will get out of its axis and leave its orbit… Shortly, you know what this means: the END OF THE WORLD! For us, only one single chance to escape: becoming friend of some extra-terrestrials based in their rear base at the Bugarach peak and get the hell out of here in their flying saucer! But be aware, they will take only the very best of us in their on board!

Well, even if you are a Cartesian, totally hermetic to the ufology, it still sounds quite weird! If you happen to be a wine lover, you just might want to have a few glasses just before the big fright… That is what my old friend Jean Pla has been thinking. This colourful and dynamic wine trader from the wild and picturesque Fenouillèdes Valley, at the border between Languedoc and Roussillon, just launched a wine with the appropriate brand name: “Bugarach, if there is only one left, I shall be that one”.  Initially, it was just for fun.

As crazy as it may sound, it didn’t take long for the idea to appeal to a good number of inquiring minds and other mystics who made the pilgrimage to Bugarach! Within fifteen days, no less than 1,500 of the 3,000 available bottles were sold! “What can I say, people like the label,” jokes the wine-merchant once again, for he is well-aware of the quality of the beverage. “It’s a fine little Grenache from the Agly Valley that sells well in Japan. I decided to set aside a few bottles to sell under the name of Cuvée Bugarach…”
